Task 1 - Industry Based Project - Creative Response
Task 1
- Why is the charity in business?
- What makes it different?
- Why should the target audience care about Creative Response?
The charity is in business mainly because of the effect it has on its participants who have been there for various durations. The feedback and comments by the participants and their families are positive which helps lead this charity towards the success it is attempting to achieve.
Creative Response takes ethics and benefiting society seriously which is also another reason behind it staying in business. They are not licensed psychiatrists but that does not stop them from attempting to help those struggling with mental health, learning and physical disabilities through other means. It creates a safe haven for those who want to get away or in a way deal with the struggles that they may be facing.
Creative Response is different because of the means through which they attempt to help those who come to them. The said means are various forms of arts which include but are not limited to; painting, papier mache, pottery etc. Art is scientifically proven to be a form of stress release and also helps in improving self esteem, healing and memory. The charity offers a form of art therapy which is proven to be beneficial by the journal Psychological Trauma: Theory, Research, Practice, and Policy, “In art therapy, mindfulness is what allows an individual to receive the therapeutic benefit of ‘tuning out’ the daily stress and anxiety and to focus on a single task while also focusing on the materials employed for self-expression.” (Braus and Morton, 2020). The only gain the charity hopes to achieve is being a barrier between the participant and their difficulties and that is what makes them different. In this increasingly capitalistic world, it is refreshing to see an organisation focusing on the well-being of those around them.
The charity has multiple groups that can be considered as their target audience. These include old and new participants, potential sponsors and donors and psychiatrists/psychologists.
Every group has its own reasons for caring about Creative Response.
For the participants, the main reason is the help they offer and how it makes them improve. The safe and helpful environment of the charity in terms of the space and those involved make the participants feel relaxed and motivated.
Sponsorships and donations often need a motive behind supporting any kind of business or organisation. That being said, Creative Response provides the most popular reason as to why it would attract such sponsors and donors. The reason is that it has a major social factor. Mental health effects a large amount of individuals and many of them do not often have access to doctors as it can be very expensive or they might not feel safe around them. The charity provides free classes and sessions and all funding goes towards resources to benefit the participants.
All these groups should care about Creative Response as their main priority is personal development, learning new skills and creating positive relationships which all amounts to a betterment in society and creating an aware environment.
